By the end of December 2024, China Longyuan Power Group Corporation Limited (Longyuan Power), a subsidiary of CHN Energy, achieved a significant milestone as its total installed capacity for new energy projects exceeded 40 gigawatts (GW). This accomplishment not only marks a major step forward for the company but also sets a solid foundation for the successful completion of its 14th Five-year Plan and the smooth launch of the 15th Five-year Plan.
The 450-megawatt Photovoltaic Project in Golmud, Qinghai
Longyuan Power, recognized as China's first new energy stock, has made remarkable strides in the new energy sector. In 2024, the company implemented a series of initiatives under the Year of Major Project Construction Management. It established specialized supervision teams to ensure safety, timely commencement and successful commissioning of projects. These efforts accelerated the progress of key projects, including the 450-megawatt photovoltaic project in Golmud, Qinghai; the 390-megawatt integrated wind power project in Guangxi; and the 45-megawatt wind power project in Xiaowangzhuang, Tianjin—all of which were successfully connected to the grid and began operations.
As a pioneer, trailblazer and leader in China's wind power industry, Longyuan Power has cemented its position as the world's largest wind power operator. The company first gained prominence in December 2009 when it successfully listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, earning the title of China's first new energy stock. In December 2015, Longyuan Power’s wind power installed capacity surpassed 15 GW, making it the world's largest wind power operator. In January 2022, the company further expanded its presence by listing on the A-share market, becoming the first H-share new energy power generation central enterprise to return to the A-share market.
Guoneng Sharing
Longyuan Power has spent 15 years developing offshore wind power, charting a path from pilot projects to large-scale commercial development that is well-suited to China's national conditions. In 2010, the company's 30-megawatt offshore wind power pilot project in Rudong, Jiangsu province, became the first large-scale offshore wind farm in China to be connected to the grid. In June 2024, Longyuan Power launched the world's first floating platform integrating wind power generation with aquaculture, known as Guoneng Sharing. This innovative project combines fish farming underwater with electricity generation above water, setting a new standard for sustainable development.
The Tengger Desert New Energy Base in Ningxia
The company has also taken the lead in developing large-scale projects in deserts, Gobi and wastelands, exploring a model that combines green energy with ecological governance. The Tengger Desert New Energy Base in Ningxia, China's largest such base, is a prime example. Longyuan Power is leading the construction of 8.5 GW of capacity at this site, with 2 GW already completed and connected to the grid. The first phase of the 1 GW photovoltaic project has seen vegetation coverage increase from 0-0.5% to 15-20%, demonstrating significant ecological improvements.
De Aar Wind Power Project in South Africa
Internationally, Longyuan Power has actively engaged in the Belt and Road Initiative. Its De Aar Wind Power Project in South Africa is the first wind power project in Africa to be invested in, constructed and operated by a Chinese power generation company. The project supplies approximately 760 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, meeting the electricity needs of 300,000 households.
Longyuan Power is also committed to social responsibility and rural revitalization. In Youyu County, Shanxi province, the company has implemented tailored measures for local villages, building ecological sheep breeding bases and solar greenhouses. These initiatives have developed a full industrial chain for specialized agriculture and ecological sheep breeding, increasing annual village collective income by 150,000 RMB and achieving an average household income increase of 2,000 RMB.
Data Interface of the Digital Carbon Inventory Management System
With the goal of becoming a world-class new energy technology leader, Longyuan Power has established an industry-leading new energy technology service system. The digital platform for new energy production, developed by its engineering and technology company, has achieved international leading levels in large component condition monitoring and intelligent operation and maintenance.
Looking ahead, Longyuan Power will continue to pursue diversified, rapid, large-scale, efficient and science-based development, leading the green and high-quality development of China's new energy industry.
