As the Spring Festival brought a festive atmosphere to Fujian Province, the world’s first integrated wind power-fishery floating platform, Guoneng Sharing, was hard at work conducting fishing operations on February 1.

Located 30 kilometers east of Shicheng Pier in Xiuyu, Putian, the platform represents a groundbreaking innovation in combining deep-sea floating wind power with fishery aquaculture. Situated within the national marine ranch demonstration zone of Nanri Island, Putian, Guoneng Sharing features a unique design that pairs a 4-megawatt floating wind turbine with a 10,000-cubic-meter aquaculture cage. This open deep-sea farming model has successfully brought to life the concept of "generating electricity above water while farming fish below", marking a significant step forward in green development.
Upon boarding the platform, the dark purple aquaculture cages are immediately visible. Fishing operations were in full swing, with processes such as net casting and hauling being carried out seamlessly and efficiently. According to Chen Bin, head of the maintenance team at Nanri Wind Farm, the platform operates in open waters, 30 kilometers offshore, with a depth of 35 meters, and the area’s excellent water quality, strong currents and expansive space create ideal conditions for producing high-quality aquatic products.
In April, 2024, the first batch of 10,000 large yellow croaker fry was released into the aquaculture cage of Guoneng Sharing. These fish, which feed on natural small fish and shrimp in the sea, have developed firm, sweet flesh that rivals that of wild-caught croakers, making them highly sought after in the market. During this year’s Spring Festival, the demand for these premium croakers far exceeded supply, Chen Bin added.
Winter in Fujian brings strong winds and rough seas, creating challenging conditions for operations. Despite the harsh environment, the platform’s staff closely monitor weather patterns and seize every available opportunity to carry out fishing activities. In the evening, after a day of work, the team returned to the wind farm’s cafeteria, where a lively atmosphere awaited. Chen Bin, holding a box of freshly caught croakers, excitedly announced, “The wind farm is like our second home. Look what we’ve got here—our very own farmed large yellow croakers! I’ll make a fish soup for everyone, wishing us all a year of abundance!”
Beyond its success in aquaculture, Guoneng Sharing also plays a vital role in renewable energy generation. The platform’s 4-megawatt wind turbine, operating at full capacity, can produce 4,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per hour. Over a full day, this amounts to 96,000 kilowatt-hours, which is enough to meet the daily electricity needs of approximately 42,500 people.
